Our story

A nursery we run as a family.

Vrt iN is a family plant nursery and garden centre at the foot of Buje. We grow most of our plants ourselves and sell them in the same place, so you buy from the people who planted and raised them. It all started with a love of nature and years of hard work.

We look after them from the seedling stage, so we know how each one has grown and what it needs. By the time it leaves us, it's ready for its new home.

Our range

What grows in our nursery

Hedging plants, tall and low shrubs, ornamental trees and olives, Mediterranean herbs, climbers and fruit trees. All of it grows here, outdoors and in the greenhouse. For hedges we also grow fast-growing varieties, for when you need screening quickly.

Ancient olive trees

Olive trees up to 100 years old.

The olive is the tree people picture when they think of Istria, and it matters most to us too. We have young trees aged 3 and 5 years and ornamental trees aged 10, 50 and 100.

No two old trees are alike. One has a wide crown, another a trunk that decades have twisted into an odd shape. That's why it's best to see them in person and pick your own.

At the nursery

The soil is still warm and the rain is back, so plants have time to root before winter. Figs, pomegranates and olives ripen.

Time to plant

A great time to plant olive trees, standard trees and hedges, especially fast-growing ones like photinia and Leyland cypress.

Buje and Istria

Beneath the sentinel of Istria.

Buje sits on a hill above the vineyards and olive groves of north-western Istria, which is why people call it the sentinel of Istria. Our nursery is at the foot of that hill.

Our plants grow in Istrian soil, under the same sun and bora wind as your garden. When you take them home, they are already used to this climate.
